As for EMAIL notifications, you will only get those if you don't visit the site for 2 days. Then you will start getting emails. You can change it though, if you scroll down the page you can choose either the default option, or to be notified on email regardless if you are on the site or not, or never receive anything on email at all.
I think this is a rather smart system, what for to clog up people's email boxes with notifications if they visit the site regularly, anyway? They have eyes, they can see. 
The system will ONLY start pestering you on email if you stop visiting the site.
