I just had some fun with the new 'captcha' game you can do after messaging another member, that was the most exciting thing tonight, the message was 'return to sender' banned or barred member...

I've never had to do a captcha to send or reply to message... do you use a mobile device and maybe your IP address changes now and then?? I can see a captcha being used in that case for an additional security layer.... but maybe Marisa knows more about it.

Yeah... could be that it's my first reply for ages, also my IP will be different same town and area but different supplier and connection

Captcha only appears if you are not replying to a message, but starting a new message within your mailbox, by clicking on a "New message" link. Obviously, this is done to prevent mass-mailing.
However, I am confused by this part:
the message was 'return to sender' banned or barred member...
Not sure what that means... You were probably starting correspondence with a member who was banned, deleted their profile, or you misspelled their username.

It could be that I replied from the Email I was sent... it's bound to be something simple

you cannot reply via email. The email in your mailbox is just a notification about a new message waiting for you on the site. It is sent from no-reply automated mailsystem, not from a member. You have to login into the site and reply here.

I have just replied to the same person in the exact manner as before.. Yup no surprises there...all went fine.
Now I don't know what I did wrong then but obviously 'something' happened at my end, after doing the captcha the message was sent and returned as Banned user or some such like.
Perhaps I'll scan my system and check for an unruly entry,
the most likely reason is that I'm just a tired old man.

Maybe it would be good to go to a person's profile, and then click on the "send PM" link...
that way the site puts the name in, and the profile won't show if the user is not a valid user
it also has another benefit of letting the person know you viewed their profile prior to sending them a PM
