Love-rat: one of those men (or women) who chat up many professing true love to each but really just playing on emotions. As usual the love-rat eventually gets caught out leaving a trail of broken hearts behind.

Let this be a warning: This site is as scam free as it is possible to make it BUT we can't possibly vouch for or check members ethics or genuine tendencies. The same care should be taken as meeting someone off internet, in fact more, as on internet more can be hidden.

We have a saying that "in every forest there is a snake" so it could be possible that some love-rats can sneak into the site. They can be clever also. But there are ways to verify like chatting on cam or if he/she just wants to play you can ask probing questions that would reveal their true colors. A fish is caught by the mouth! And don't be so naive to trust somebody you haven't met in person. For all you know the love notes that makes you giggle are just "copy/paste" !

In principle you are right, Amelia, but technology has now advanced enough to make even web cam chat into a gamble. It is well possible to watch a live video edit of a previously recorded (without permission) conversation. You may think, that you are talking to a real person, but a tech-savvy scammer is manipulating a video instead. Only a real-life meeting can give conclusive answers after a time of online dating. However NEVER send any money to anyone, you have not met before in person, and whom you can trust. It is also very risky to travel to some countries (like Nigeria, Benin or Ghana etc), because of the high chance of getting kidnapped and held for ransom. It happened quite a lot of times already.

Willi, not only can there be pre-recorded conversations, but these days also is virtual reality (VR). there is VR software out there that can take a picture and turn it into a VR "doll" operated by the keyboard. This "VR Doll" can then be projected into a web cam chat window, so it appears to be a live chat with this "Doll". Most of these scams are done by blackmailers in the Philippines and Northern Africa. they ask you to drop your drawers, perform for them, then copy your friends list from FB or other social media sites and threaten to send the clip of you performing for them if you don't pay up to them.

Note: while I use the term "Doll", I do not use it as feminine or masculine. It can be either depending on if the possible victim is male or female, and the PV's preference.
