I'm not so sure this belongs in homemaker.... but it does relate to food so it went here for now.
When still in highschool in Germany I had a summer vacation job in a canning company they were canning cherries, when I worked there. The cherries went onto a slow conveyor belt for manual sorting, and all the blemished, moldy and rotten cherries were removed but not discarded ! Instead they were tipped into a large plastic vat, which contsined sulphuric acid. The acid dissolved the fruit (and maggots therein) and the clean pips and wooden parts of the stems sank to the bottom and could be removed easily with a strainer, after the thick liquid was chemically neutralized. This liquid was further processed and became cherry jelly... Of course this process works with all types of fruit. Bon appetit !
