Should our governments be censoring information or revealing the unadulterated truth?

I know that some things may be unpalatable but given the option and all facts I would prefer to know the truth.  At least then I can make informed decisions for myself.  What about you?

I'd say that the answer mostly depends on what we are talking about to begin with...

Ergo: if its food, or something we put in our bodies ( including medicines, herbs, spices, and the like).. we have a right to know everything about it. Whether or not it is a Genetically modified Organism ( GMO) or not... " Natural flavor" replaced with exactly what the flavor is made of, I mean I'm sure spiders have a flavor, and they are natural, but I don't want to eat them if I had the choice...

Other things like Military and security issues do have reasons they can not be made public. I respect the idea behind that as long as the theory does not go too far... and EVERYTHING gets to be "classified", including why a stapler costs $8 at the office supply store, but the military one ( Identical to the office supply store, make, model, and even color) sells to the military for $45.... that crap needs to be out in the open for discussion.

Billy, speaking of natural flavors, was listening to  NPR yesterday and this was a topic of discussion.  One example was castoreum, that is taken from beaver's castor sacs.  That are located between the anus and external genitalia of both male and female beaver.  It is used for vanilla, as well as rasberry flavorings, among others....and used in puddings, candy and ice cream.  So much for natural ?   Would you consume these foods if the origin was disclosed?  I would not.

Nona, I found out about the beaver's anus long ago and was completely repulsed by the idea that food companies could get away with such marketing "scams".

That is the biggest reason I make such a big deal of it today.

If you've ever taken the time to read the ingredient list on most of the foods you eat, many of them will have "natural flavors" printed, but nothing about what those "natural flavors" are.

even when I lived out in BFE, and hunted for game to eat through the winter months, most of the intestines / digestive track stuff was not considered edible, it went to use as bait or fertilizer....

Billy, I have always questioned the "natural flavors" ingredient.  But, never, never imagined the beaver connection.   Even though I eat things most people would not even try....I find animal secretions truly repugent.  Yuck.

I totally agree with you Crystal.  Do you not love it when people tell you that what you have lovingly created is just "too much trouble to make"? LOL    Or, cannot understand why in the world you would choose to make your own bread? LOL

But, then I can remember when someone bought my boys clothes...because they hated my "having" to knit their sweaters and mittens LOL...

Crystal, from the looks of the dishes, or "hobby" as you call it..... I'd say you do very well with it.

I really don't know where you can find the time to make such exquisite creations, I love to cook as well, but I don't enjoy spending the majority of my weekends and days off in the kitchen. Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines are some of my favorite people
