Mine was the summer before college.  I worked in a Fannie Farmer Candy Shoppe and received $15 a week, in a little brown envelope.

OK Nona..... I'm not going to make the joke I am dying to make..... some candy little girl???  LMAO, ok I did it !!!  Sorry

I guess it depends on what you mean by "salary". I cut lawns in the neighborhood for a couple of bucks / lawn... then delivered newspapers, that is where I found out if my customers did not pay I still got charged from the news paper company.

Then an actual paid by the hour job was good 'ol Mickey D's. a whopping $2 or $3/hour + change was minimum wage back then and that is what they paid.

Yes Billy, I did mean a salary vs the lawn and baby sitting jobs most young people have done.

Candy little girl LOL....kind of the other way around.  I was the one with the candy.  Most of the customers were Harvard and MIT students...harmless.

Was it in Germany, Crystal?

So there were a lot of kids there?  Did you go to school on base?

Quote from coloradosweetheart

My father was in the Army, so we didn't have "bases."  We had "Barracks" and "Kasernes" (which translates to "Barracks")  LOL

The high school from which I graduated was a DoDDS facility.  I don't recall it being ON a military installation, per se, but was surrounded by them.  It was a strange area...some places had restricted access, requiring sentries.  Augsburg had about dozen scattered installations.

I remember walking from housing to school, and the PX and gas station were close by, which is indicative of a military installation.  However, I don't remember that these facilities were within restricted access areas, like a true military installation.

What a wonderful experience that must have been, Crystal.  Classmates from all over the US in Germany.   No wonder you have such good memories and want to live there again.  Or have you given that dream up?

How could you not, Crystal?

My first salaried job was a bookkeeper for a small retailer of bakery products like yeast, baking powder, etc. I was underpaid (below minimum wage) but I had to grab the opportunity just to gain experience. No stable or big company would hire inexperienced applicants by then. But I was hired on my own merits without recommendation or sponsor that was the trend those times.

I think i sold weed at school when i was 14 15 it gave me some money if that counts as well

Or i helped my old folks who had some bars and a disco the disco was cool i was responsible for the music and to buy new records tho i bought some commercial stuff and good rare non commercial music for me that made grow my music collection to a huge one.....

I even had some shows in better state than some west coast 60s bands and i still trade some unreleaed music or shows with some old bands even today....

At times what i have is even better sounding or more complete than what some bands put out commercialy....

Apart of that i didn't need no money....

My first paid job was working on weekends and summer at a  Wood manufacturing  company.  My job was to pile those cut -irregular sizes of woods in a pallet.

That was a hard job and I was paid so little but it helped a lot with my school expenses and was able to help my family as well.

I was 17 and and short order cook at a drugstore grill for a whopping $1.25 an hour.  When I finished nursing school and had my first "real" job as an RN I was paid $5 an hour and thought I was rich!

Whoops!  I guess I'm giving away my age with that info. . . :D

When I was in Jr. high school I worked for a major newspaper as a paper carrier. I delivered the papers 6 days a week for $10 a month and that was for a country route. Lots of walking after school and on Saturday for a little remuneration. Had many jobs since and pay is much better.

My first paid work was the dream vacation job for any youngster: I actually worked in a local specialty chocolate factory ! My "production line" job entailed knocking the chocolate shapes out of their metal molds manually. Breakages were allowed to be consumed during lunch hour...

I think the salary is too much important when you have first job. Just do what you like. And I had the first job like that. Hihi
