The same people were turning up for all my searches so I decided to use a US Zip code with only a 50 mile radius and I still got people from other countries in the search results! Why is that?!

When you enter some search criteria, it will not return that criteria ONLY in the results. It will return that criteria FIRST in the results, on the top of the search results. And then other stuff, after that.

If nothing matches your search criteria, it's not going to display a message "no results found". It will merely display other stuff related to your search.

If you search 50 miles within a zip code:

- first it will show 50 miles radius (if anything is found at all! Keep in mind, this is a small site with only 80000 members worldwide, so there is a chance there is nobody in 50 miles radius).

- then it will show 100 miles

- then 500

- then 1000...

and so on, up to other countries.

Thanks for the response Marissa. Makes the criteria set irrelevant doesn't it? I would actually prefer if it said no results so I have confidence that the algorithms work.
