for just going out for a date, it probably doesn't matter. But for a serious relationship it can matter. Sometimes the type of job a person does and his income (IF he even has one! he can be loser sitting on the taxpayers back for years!) can tell a lot about a person.

Lot's of people date military personel, why should that matter? The only drawback is the possibility that they will be called to serve in a dangerous area. There are many married soldiers so their partners weren't put off.
